May 25, a EF 5 tornado hit Parkersburg, IA. I grew up close from there and have family in Parkersburg. My dad's aunt and uncle lost their home and another uncle lost his home. My dad went into help and said the tallest 2x4 from my uncle's house wasn't more than 4 feet tall. I was heading out to Iowa for my niece's graduation party and we decided to pack up the Durango with goods for the tornado victims. The word spread and before we knew it, we had more clothes than we knew what to do with. I had my UPS loader (Ken loaded trucks for 7 1/2 years) fill the vehicle, and when we unloaded, Dad and I actually had to pull (HARD) to get the goods out. Dad and I went to the scene of pure devastation! It was utterly amazing to see where the path of the tornado was. The limbs of the trees were just gone and it looked like the trees had been on fire. One bank was open with a tarp for part of their roof. The Pizza Ranch was gone except for one wall with a row of booths. It was very eery to see where a house once stood and is now gone, but the car remains in the driveway! We are planning another trip out to IA next month and hopefully we will be able to stay and help.
